A career in homecare can be an incredibly rewarding one to pursue. Helping to support people in their homes and daily lives can be challenging, but the satisfaction you get from the services we provide is beyond comparison! But what does the day-to-day job look like, and what are the responsibilities of the role? If you’re considering a job in homecare, take a look below at some of the core aspects of your working life!

Taking care of service users

Upon completing all of your mandatory training your role, first and foremost, will be taking care of your clients! This means supporting your customers in maintaining active and healthy lifestyles, completing daily tasks and errands, and offering whatever bespoke support they need for their individual circumstances. This also involves promoting dignity and independence for your clients. As well as ensuring that appropriate assistance is offered to allow them to live in their chosen lifestyle. Whether its helping complete tasks like shopping and cooking, maintaining cleanliness and tidiness in their home, or engaging with social activities with them, your priority will always be your client.

Delivering of individual care programmes

Delivering bespoke service to your clients is of the utmost importance. You cannot expect to approach your customers with a cut and paste approach, or go in with a “one size fits all” attitude. In your role as homecare assistant you will need to engage directly with your homecare clients to ensure that their individual care programme is appropriate and to their satisfaction. Talking and listening to your customers, and reporting back any complaints or issues to your manager. This will help us to provide the best individual care possible.

Administrate medical assessment and care

Alongside supporting your clients in whatever they need, you’ll also be required to help administrate ongoing medical care, so the ability to keep accurate records is vital. Medication must be monitored and administered, and strict records kept ensuring all medication is being taken by the correct time and dosage. Using pressure care aids in beds, helping to maintain good skin integrity, and assisting in the collection of specimens and samples are all other examples of medical care you may need to aid.
